25th November 2008

A full meeting at Plugit this morning. The chairman opened the meeting and gave thanks to all the members and guests. The weather was atrocious but still the core membership made the effort to attend the meeting. Our secretary Aubrey, was sadly, unable to attend the meeting due to illness, but Debbie the treasurer did an excellent job of keeping us in line and taking the minutes. The Chairman announced that he would not be standing for re-election in the March AGM. An excellent opportunity for members to propose new committee members or volunteer their services. Plugit is fully democratic, irrespective of an individuals knowledge or ignorance about computers.

Part 2 of today's meeting was an interesting talk given by Taryn Johnston of "Seagull design Services" about how the internet and email system works.

Coffee morning at the Plugit meeting, gave us an above average turnout of members and guests. A cancellation of a presentation meant that we had to think up an alternative in a hurry. This month Tony (H) asked how many members were using the windows Vista Operating system his survey revealed that only 6 members out of the 34 present actually used Windows Vista. When asked how many members were considering upgrading to Vista we found that it was perhaps not on top of everyone's shopping list.

A quick Question and Answer session (always popular) was ended with a break for coffee.

After the break a demonstration of how to install new fonts into your pc was given. Available now as a download.

23rd September 2008

A full meeting this month where the usual format was followed and minutes of the meeting were documented. Meetings like this are always more fun when members give their point of view of topics generated during the meeting in "Any other business" and "Matters Arising". It's good to get positive feedback and helpful on the odd occasions when we get negative feedback. The meeting adjourned for coffee at 11am and resumed some twenty minutes later with an interactive demonstration of "The Registry" was presented by the Chairman. Although demonstrations like this can go over the heads of some people, most people will be curious enough to "take a look" at a different area of computing. Members and visitors were cautioned about the fragility of the registry. A demonstration synopsis has been added to the downloads.

Members had a treat this month, a question and answer session hosted by Bob Lightsey and Tony Harrison. Both Bob and Tony presented the meeting in its entirety and scored a success with the membership. The question and answer sessions may become a regular feature of the clubs presentations. Thanks to Bob and Tony from all the committee members and Chairman.

22nd July 2008

A hint of summer in the air and a full meeting with all that it entails. Amid the usual topics was an additional topic of "Coffee breaks" - Until further notice, Plugit would pay for one coffee or tea per member per meeting. This would be reviewed after Christmas and, if it were successful would be carried on into the new year (2009). The second half of our meeting was taken by "Andy Forde" from Handicom in Louth. Who gave a brilliant demonstration on the workings and effectiveness of Kaspersky internet security and anti virus programs. Many thanks Andy for giving up the time for such an interactive demonstration. A link to www.Kaspersky.co.uk can be found on the links page

24th June 2008

Another good turn out for our monthly get together. Pretty much an easy going meeting looking at the Control Panel and some of its intricacies. We looked at all the sub-menu's from Accessibility to The time and date up until the break. After the coffee break, we looked at and discussed "Display" to "Internet Options". Surprising how may of us learned a little bit more, Which after all is what "Plugit" is all about.

27th May 2008

The first "FULL" meeting since the AGM and even though the weather had been dampened by rain, we still had a good turnout for the meeting. As well as the usual agenda items we also had discussions about E-mail problems we were having. We were very proud to present existing members with a celebratory Flash Drive to commemorate our 10th Year as a user group.

Part 2 of this meeting was a complete demonstration on how to install and use "Skype" communication system on your computer. Michael Wellby demonstrated the install process and how to use Skype. Sue Wellby (Michael's wife) completed the demonstration with a live connection from home. The Demonstration is now available as a download dated 27th May 2008

22nd April 2008

The Tour Of Windows XP - was the theme for today's well attended meeting. The showing of the pre-installed windows tour movie was well accepted by the membership. Part 2 of the coffee morning was dedicated to Search engines - their pro's and con's. It seems that much can be gained by the back to basics approach even if it serves just to "jog the memory". Don't miss next months meeting for "Something out of the ordinary". A brief demo of Creating a restore point was added to the Archive.

25th March 2008

Today was the 10th Annual General Meeting of Plugit. During the meeting it was necessary to elect the committee for the next 12 months. All the existing committee were prepared to stand again with the exception of Founder Member Mr D Myers. All officers were duly elected and David being a Founder Member was given Honorary Membership.

In addition to the existing committee, 4 new committee members were elected bringing the total committee to 14.

An "all too brief" demonstration of the Plugit.org.uk website was given and questions about the site were answered. Another successful meeting with a promise of more good stuff in the year to come.

26th of February 2008

Today marked the start of the new year at Plugit (January being a discussion Meeting and December being Christmas). A full meeting required the agenda to be followed to make sure the club is on the right course for this coming year. The Chairman pointed out that next months meeting will be the A.G.M. where the need to elect officers of the committee is of paramount importance. After coffee we started with a new demonstration of how to use watermarking in word and how to insert Pictures into a text document. Watch out for a late entry of how to create a compressed folder in Windows Operating Systems.
